The Port of Truro lies at the head of the Fal Estuary in Cornwall. Lighterage Quay, the main commercial quay is 350 metres in length and has storage facilities (both open and covered), stevedoring, fresh water and weighbridge available. Advantages of using the Port are:-

A central location for the South West of the U.K. with a hinterland extending throughout Cornwall, Devon and the South West peninsula
Inland location offering low cost road haulage
Low port charges
Low berth utilisation

Cargo handling to date includes bulk commodities (coal, stone, sand, ore concentrates, scrap metal, animal feed, fertiliser, grain, calcified seaweed), palletised goods (timber, building blocks and china clay), pre-slung timber and project cargoes (boat moulds, etc.)

The Harbour Authority has committed itself to upgrading facilities to enable the efficient, safe and quick handling of goods which includes maintaining a dredging commitment, improved navigational lighting, upgrading quay surfaces and providing security for goods on the quay.

The largest vessels handled to date include vessels with lengths up to 85m and deadweights of 2000 tonnes. Due to its inland location the Port is tidal and vessels of 4.1m draft can be handled on mean high water springs. Pilotage is non-compulsory for vessels up to 75m.
