| The
Port of Truro lies at the head of the Fal Estuary in Cornwall. Lighterage
Quay, the main commercial quay is 350 metres in length and has storage
facilities (both open and covered), stevedoring, fresh water and weighbridge
available. Advantages of using the Port are:- |

| Cargo
handling to date includes bulk commodities (coal, stone, sand, ore
concentrates, scrap metal, animal feed, fertiliser, grain, calcified
seaweed), palletised goods (timber, building blocks and china clay),
pre-slung timber and project cargoes (boat moulds, etc.) |

The Harbour Authority has committed itself to upgrading facilities
to enable the efficient, safe and quick handling of goods which includes
maintaining a dredging commitment, improved navigational lighting,
upgrading quay surfaces and providing security for goods on the quay.

The largest vessels handled to date include vessels with lengths up
to 85m and deadweights of 2000 tonnes. Due to its inland location
the Port is tidal and vessels of 4.1m draft can be handled on mean
high water springs. Pilotage is non-compulsory for vessels up to 75m. |
